APPLICATION GUIDE-PART 1 PLASTIC MODELS Regular Alclad: is similar in strength to lacquer/cellulose car paints-injected polystyrene plastics frequently have areas which Alclad can craze. Apply one of these primers before using Regular Alclad:
Alclad Grey Primer
Alclad Gloss Black Base
Future/Klear-floor sealer/polish

Plastic primers should be lightly polished with 1000/1200 wet&dry paper to give a less absorbent glossy surface.

High Shine Finishes-Polished Aluminium, Chrome for plastic and Stainless Steel require a dark glossy base, use
Alclad Gloss Black Base

SPRAYING

  • Alclad should be sprayed at 15-20psi.
  • Spray from1 1/2 -2 1/2 inches away from the model.
  • Apply light coats.
  • Use the airbrush like a paint brush not an aerosol.
  • Buffing is not necessary-though tonal variation can be made by polishing selected panels with Micromesh.
  • A sealer is not required.
  • Regular Alclad can be masked and over-painted.
  • Decal solutions can be used with Regular Alclad, but are not recommended for Polished Aluminium,Chrome or Stainless Steel.

Transparent colours-these finishes can be applied directly over Regular Alclad to produce heat stains and anodised effects-Alclad High Shine Finishes will require sealing with water based clear before the application of Alclad Transparent colours.

Prismatic Finishes-these colours should be applied over a dark base-Alclad Gloss Black Base,Tamiya TS-14 Black or dark auto paint.

  • Spray Alclad Prismatic at 20 psi-use a wide spray patter-cover the model with as few passes as possible.
  • The Prismatic material will seem slightly rough when dry-this is normal.
  • Build up 2-3 coats of clear lacquer, model varnish or 2 pack urethane to obtain a deep reflective finish.

APPLICATION GUIDE PART 2 POLYCARBONATE/LEXAN BODY SHELLS
The surface must be thoroughly cleaned-remove release agent, adhesive residue and finger marks.

  • Regular Alclad-apply 2-3 light coats at 15-20 psi,back with any R/C paint.
  • High Shine Alclad-apply 2-3 light coats at 15-20 psi, large areas can be backed with water based black or silver paint.
  • Prismatic Finishes-clean the inside of the body shell-an anti-static cloth is recommended. Spray at 20 psi,use a wide spray pattern to ensure even coverage. Alclad Prismatics need to be backed with a dark colour-any will do,this can be lacquer or water based.
  • Transparent colours-clean the inside of the body shell. For large areas mist one light coat, wait 10 minutes, now spray a moderate wet coat-this will gloss over. Back with Alclad Chrome for Lexan. Smaller areas can have one wet coat before the Chrome backing.
